3 Essential Tips for WordPress Beginners

So you’ve hired a web design Manchester agency to build a stunning website for your small business. They’ve recommended the WordPress CMS for your website and you don’t have a clue what’s it about.

If you’ve just begun using WordPress for your business website, fret not. Our web design Manchester experts bring to you 3 essential tips to help you make the most of your WordPress website.

Schedule Post Dated Blog Posts

If you thought that you have to log in to your WordPress admin section every time you have a new idea for a blog post, think again. WordPress allows you to schedule posts for a future date. Yes, you heard that right.

Whether you blog once a month, once a week or daily, you can schedule your blogs to go live at a specific date and time. This means that you don’t even have to be logged into your account or near your desktop when the blog goes live.

Here’s how you can do it once you’ve finished writing your blog:

On the top-right side, find a box labelled “Publish”. Here, you’ll find an option that reads, “Publish immediately”.

Next to it, you’ll find a blue “Edit” button. Click on it, and now you can set the date and time you want your blog to go live.

Once you’re done, click on the OK button.

You will see that the text “Publish immediately” has been replaced by the words “Schedule for”.

Once you are ready to publish the article, click on the “Schedule” button and it will go live on the scheduled date and time.

As your web design Manchester agency, Blue Whale Media would be happy to provide basic training to help you make the most of your WordPress website.

Change Blog Post Authors

If several people write for your website, but you are the one who finally publishes them, you will see that your username will show as the author for every blog post. If you want to change authors, follow these steps:

Click on “Edit” for the blog post you want to change the author for.

On the top-right corner of the page, you will see “Screen Options” tab. Click on it and you will see a variety of options in the drop down.

Tick that box titled “Author”. Now you’ll see a new box on the page labelled “Author”. Here, you will find a drop-down box with author names for you to choose from.

Choose the author you want to set for this post and click on “Update” or “Publish” to save the changes.

Titles and Descriptions

The title and description of a page/post are very crucial elements. When you share your page/post to Facebook or LinkedIn, your page title and description will show up along with the link.

When your post/page shows up in search engine results, searchers look at the title and description to decide whether they want to visit a page or not.

To make the maximum impact, be sure to target your titles and descriptions for your audience. You can do this by installing a simple SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO that would allow you to edit your page Title, Description as well as the meta keywords.
