A Journey Through Design

Navigating through design has transformed my life and who I am as a person. I have always thrived when expressing my creativity. Throughout all aspects of my education and hobbies, practicality and innovation have been the focal points of all. I have explored a vast range of design mediums, from simply acrylic art paintings to fully engineered/manufactured products.

Early Years…

During my high school and college education, I indulged in Art and 3D design. These were the initial steps in my design journey. I was able to explore a whole range of themes, with a personal favourite of nature. Within this brief, I decided to tackle the issues surrounding poaching and trophy hunting. Using the research and personal inspiration to produce a statement piece using chicken wire and Modroc to sculpt a full-sized split dystopian/utopian elephant head.

During my Degree…

Over the last four years, I have been studying at Loughborough University, completing my bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and Technology. Experiencing all aspects of the product design, manufacturing and market placement. Learning and understanding what it takes to build a successful brand and the vitality of brand language, awareness and consistency. Challenging me to innovate, ideate, engineer and develop concepts from across the commercial spectrum.

Alongside my studies, I was elected the role of Media Officer within the Welfare and Diversity community on campus. This was the first spark in my interest for digital content creation. I created frequent posters, presentations, and information graphics and organised an art competition. I spent time researching various topics surrounding disability awareness and presenting these as aesthetically pleasing and accessible sources for all students and supporters.

My Personal Projects…

When the first lockdown started, I discovered a new passion for videography. I start using my knowledge of video editing software to formulate comical and uplifting birthday videos. I was provided with a basic brief and a library of footage and challenged to produce well-edited, entertaining and sentimental short films. This led me to the idea of producing highlight videos of holiday adventures. Capturing breathtaking moments and beautiful scenery and combining them into inspiring overviews of the experience.

Discovering my Role…

Once I had graduated, I discovered a whole new field of design that I wanted to explore. The role provided me with the opportunity to do the favourite parts of my degree: graphic design, web design, logo design and client liaison. Whilst also, learning the logistics behind digital marketing, working directly with clients and being able to confidently propose ideas within a team. Being able to collaborate with experts and aim to develop a larger understanding of current trends and emulate that within my work.

The Future…

I am excited to have found a role at Blue Whale Media that challenges my skill set and personal growth. I look forward to improving and widening my abilities around like-minded people, in the hope that I will be able to take pride in my creations and future projects.
